What is Creating math success and Why are We Here?
My name is John Dunaway and I have taught math for seventeen years in the Kansas City area. I clearly remember the moment I began teaching my first college class. I had nine years experience teaching math to Middle and High School students and I was really excited to teach adults. I remember thinking how nice it would be to have students who did their homework, took good notes and came to class prepared to learn and be active learners. The college class I was teaching was an introductory class that did not count toward a degree, but was needed to review math skills that students may be missing.
Quickly reality hit. I watched students not do homework, not know how to organize math notes and were anxious and scared of any math topic - the same struggles as Middle School students. I was frustrated and perplexed. How had we gotten to a place where math creates so much anxiety and fear? How does the anxiety affect their performance when they are taking a math test? These were questions which I began searching for answers.
CMS was created to help students learn math habits that will sustain their success through college levels of mathematics. Studies clearly show that mathematics, more than any subject, needs specific note taking strategies, test taking strategies and anxiety management strategies. The NoteMaster© by CMS is designed to simplify structure of notes to aid in mathematical organization, simplify the ability to review notes, and encourage study time outside of class because of its simplified structure. In addition to The NoteMaster©, we offer training workshops for technology use in the classroom, note taking, test taking and anxiety management.
I am passionate about helping the struggling math student – that is why I started CMS.
CMS Mission:

4. IMPROVE test-taking skills and manage anxiety during tests.
We are not a tutor service, we are an empower service.
